A website for restaurants in Barcelona: professional design, local SEO and built-in bookings
The province of Barcelona held 30.536 food and beverage premises on 1 January 2025, the highest figure in Spain, and Catalonia received 20.041.916 international tourists in that year. In the city, the menu of a bar or restaurant also has to be available to customers at least in Catalan.
The site’s SEO is written for your neighbourhood in Barcelona
El Born, Gràcia, the Eixample and Barceloneta do not share the same diner, and the neighbourhood name has to be on the website. We do not order these neighbourhoods by number of premises: the INE publishes CNAE 56 by province, and the province of Barcelona (30.536 premises) includes much more than the municipality.
Barcelona is the province with the most food-service premises in Spain
On 1 January 2025 the province of Barcelona had 30.536 CNAE 56 premises. Behind it came Girona (5.772), Tarragona (5.364) and Lleida (2.602). The Catalan total is 44.274 premises, and Barcelona accounts for 69 %. It is the province with the most food-service premises in Spain, ahead of Madrid (29.854). Source: INE, DIRCE, table 301, 1 January 2025.
In companies, which is not the same as premises, Catalonia had 37.990 CNAE 56 companies (16,2 % of the 234.900 in Spain): 14.293 restaurants and food stalls, 2.738 catering and other food-service businesses, and 20.959 beverage establishments. Accommodation (CNAE 55) added 4.655 companies. Catalonia is the second region by food and beverage companies, behind Andalusia, and the one with the most restaurants in absolute figures. Idescat, with another definition (section I, accommodation plus food and beverages), counted 49.381 companies and 58.579 hospitality establishments in Catalonia in 2024, against 47.712 companies in 2023 and 48.308 in 2022. The INE, in the press note of the Structural Business Statistics for the services sector, points out that on 1 January 2024 Catalonia was the region with the most active companies in Spain (18,5 % of the total) and that "food and beverage services" was the division with the largest contribution to services-sector turnover in 2024 (9,0 %). In Barcelona the menu has to be readable, at a minimum, in Catalan
Food and drink menus in bars and restaurants must be available to customers "almenys en català", at least in Catalan, under article 128.1 of the Codi de Consum de Catalunya (Llei 22/2010). Customers also have the right to be served orally and in writing in Catalan or in Spanish, at their choice. This is published by the Agència Catalana del Consum, a page updated on 20 February 2026.
Signs, posters and fixed notices, and documents offering services to customers, must be written at least in Catalan, under article 32.3 of Llei 1/1998, on language policy. A website that acts as the menu and the shop window falls under that logic: Catalan is not a decorative language. Spanish covers the customer's right to choose; English comes in because of the weight of the foreign visitor, which in Catalan hotels in 2025 accounted for 72,4 % of overnight stays. Catalonia was Spain's top international destination in 2025, with summer and winter closer than they look
Catalonia received 20.041.916 international tourists in 2025 (+0,51 % on the 19.940.218 of 2024 and above the 18.182.612 of 2023). It is the first region, with 20,7 % of the 96.803.894 international tourists in Spain. The provisional press release rounded Catalonia to 20,1 million (+0,6 %). Sources: INE, FRONTUR, table 23988 and note of 3 February 2026.
In hotels, 2025 left 22.611.119 travellers (+4,7 %, the largest volume of travellers among the seven regions in the brief) and 60.523.622 overnight stays (+0,2 % against 60.427.151 in 2024). 72,4 % of those overnight stays corresponds to residents abroad. August accounted for 14,6 % of the year and January for 3,9 %; July and August together, 28,1 %; from November to February, 17,2 %. The monthly peak of overnight stays was August (8.814.586) and the trough January (2.376.734), a ratio of 3,7. Source: INE, Hotel Occupancy Survey, table 61766, 2025.
In international arrivals the peak was July (2.356.119, 11,8 % of the year) and the trough December (988.858, 4,9 %), ratio 2,4. July and August added up to 22,6 % of arrivals and November to February to 22,3 %: two blocks of almost the same size. From May to October, every month exceeded 1,9 million. Source: INE, FRONTUR, table 75720, 2025. Idescat adds that hotel overnight stays in 2024 grew by 3,3 % (those of residents fell by 4,2 % and those of foreigners rose by 6,4 %), that campsites grew by 7,1 % and that rural tourism fell by 2,8 %.
The tourism balance of the Generalitat (RATUR 2024) puts 97,6 million overnight stays in Catalonia, 4 % more than in 2023. Barcelona concentrated the largest volume and the Costa Brava was the second brand, with 26,2 million. Tourism by Catalans themselves fell by 2,4 % in trips in 2024, while aggregate tourist spending rose by 6,8 %. Sources: RATUR 2024 and Idescat, resident tourism.
Sant Ponç marks a neighbourhood peak, and the website has to hold the rest of the calendar
The Fira de Sant Ponç, on carrer de l'Hospital in the Raval, is held on 11 May and has been since 1817: herbs, honey, candied fruit and cheeses. It is a city fact, not a beach high-season fact. It fits the arrivals curve, where the international winter weighs almost as much as July and August. Source: Viquipèdia, Fira de Sant Ponç.
A website for a restaurant in Barcelona has to serve the menu in Catalan, keep Spanish and allow for English because of that 72,4 % of foreign hotel overnight stays. Ranking on the map and in neighbourhood searches is handled in local SEO for restaurants in Barcelona. The catalogue and the method are on the agency page, and the page plans are on the web design pillar.
The state Kit Digital programme appears in the brief with the calls closed (Acelera pyme). ACCIÓ keeps innovation vouchers for Catalan SMEs (ACCIÓ). There is no verified figure in the brief for Catalan restaurants on TheFork, and we do not invent one.

Does a restaurant menu in Barcelona have to be in Catalan?
Yes, at a minimum. Article 128.1 of the Codi de Consum requires the food and drink menu to be available to customers at least in Catalan, and customers may choose to be served in Catalan or in Spanish. Signs and fixed offer documents also go, at a minimum, in Catalan (article 32.3 of Llei 1/1998).
How much does foreign tourism weigh on a restaurant website in Barcelona?
Catalonia received 20.041.916 international tourists in 2025, 20,7 % of Spain. In Catalan hotels that year, 72,4 % of overnight stays were by residents abroad. July and August added up to 22,6 % of international arrivals and November to February to 22,3 %: winter is not a marginal remainder.
What local date is worth having on the website besides the summer?
The Fira de Sant Ponç, on 11 May on carrer de l'Hospital, has been held since 1817. It is a documented city peak, distinct from the Costa Brava beach season (26,2 million overnight stays in 2024, Catalonia's second brand after Barcelona).

The website plans are on this landing page and on the web design pillar, from 890 €. SEO for the city is on its local SEO page, and the catalogue as a whole is on the agency page. This page does not describe a new scope for any plan or a Google listing price different from the catalogue.
